Congratulations to Molly Baltimore JD ’17 and Aaron Lichter JD ’17 for coming in second place in the 32nd Cardozo BMI Moot Court Competition. This year, the competition considered two issues under copyright law. The first, whether an online database including snippets of an original work constitutes a fair use, was magnificently argued by Molly. The second, whether a fan-fiction film mentioning a protectable element of an original work violates the original copyright, was splendidly argued by Aaron.
The competitors spent countless hours perfecting their brief and oral arguments. And it showed. Not only did Molly and Aaron win the award for second best brief, but the judges in the final round praised them for their confidence and mastery of the case law.
Special thanks to Professor Sprigman for his time and guidance as well as to the entire NYU Moot Court Board for many hours of mooting support.
